NQE Business Awards Winners

SPONSORS LOGO

The Friday just gone we were up at Charter Hall attending the NQE Business Awards- it was an evening celebrating success and great businesses that everyone enjoyed thoroughly.

As judges of the Environmental Awareness category, we were particularly proud to announce our three very worthy winners:

  •   In the small and medium company category Partnership Events and Tollgate Clinic have impressed us with their dedication and relentless efforts to make a positive contribution to the environment
  •    In the large company category Colchester 6th Form College won the prize this year! Their judge was Simon from Zero Above since the Travel Plan Club team was already well aware of their brilliant work as a member of CTPC and wanted to remain impartial.

We would like to say congratulations to all the winners and very well done! Also, we recognize the hard work of all the finalists and feel honoured they entered our category- it was a real pleasure to meet everybody!

A full blog on the subject will be on the website soon- with pictures as well- so make sure to come back and read it.

Public consultation for local bus services

Essex County Council (ECC) is currently holding a public consultation on the bus services they provide. Although these represent only about 15% of the total routes, it is important that you get involved and have your say.

What the consultation aims to do is get the public’s views on the services they run- which ones are the most important to you and why? This comes as the result of a need to reduce the expenditure and focus it in areas where it’s truly needed.

If you would like to read further on this and to contribute with your opinion, follow the link below (please note the consultation ends 9th December 2013):

NQE Business Awards 2013

We are excited to announce that we are judging one of the categories for the Colchester Business Awards 2013:  this year is the Environmental Awareness one.

We have joined forces with Zero Above and Essex County Council (ECC) and together have interviewed a total of nine finalists. For me, it was a great pleasure to meet all the candidates and I am sure my colleagues felt the same- it is just amazing to see the effort and dedication put in by everyone.

It is even more impressive what has been achieved considering the nature of the category we are judging- environmental awareness can sometimes come second place in the face of other factors. So I think our finalists set a great example that everyone should stop for a second and have a look at.

If it was for me, I would have given everyone an award! But it is a competition and so we had to make a decision in the end. It probably all sounds very cryptic as the winners will be announced on the evening of the awards- 29th November at the Charter Hall. Until then, we’ll keep the secret! I promise to come back and write an update after the event though for those of you who are curious to know more…

Pamper time with 2013 survey

View of the Balkerne restaurant

It’s that time of the year again, when Travel Plan Club members are sending out their annual travel surveys as part of their efforts to retain or improve on their current Essex County Council Business Travel Plan accreditation.

Colchester Borough Council, DSG, Colchester Institute, Colchester 6th Form, The Gilberd and CHUFT all have surveys out at the moment.

Levels of survey response is one of the key criteria for gaining accreditation, along with the number of travel plan measures in place and progress with those measures.

All our accredited members need to gain at least a 25% response rate to retain or move up to Bronze, or 50% response rate to achieve or retain gold.

As always we offer incentives to encourage colleagues to participate.

Thanks this year go to Colchester Institute for donating many prizes to help our members up their number of responses. A meal for two, a £15 hair dressing voucher and a £15 beauty voucher are all up for grabs at CBC, Colchester 6th form and CHUFT.

Colchester Institute’s contemporary restaurants offers delicious menus at very reasonable prices. Check out their menu here. Pamper yourself without breaking the bank and support a student at the same time.  Colchester Institute offers great value on a wide range of beauty treatments and hair dressing services. See what you can get for £15 at Colchester Hair and Colchester Beauty.

Are you a Supermodal?

Supermodals

WE CAN ALL BE SUPERMODALS…!

Do you sometimes take the bus to work, walk to the shops, cycle to visit friends? If so, you’re a Supermodal!

A new promotion running throughout October is looking for the UK’s Supermodals! Two lucky winners will win a trip for two to Amsterdam.

Are you 18 to 35 and part of a growing trend of people who give the car a break and choose different modes of transport? Are you someone who likes the flexibility of being able to travel your way, in your style?

Let’s get behind this promotion and show them how many Supermodals we have in Colchester!

To take part, you need to upload a picture of you on your supermodal journey. Supermodal partners want to show off the benefits people get when they opt not to use the car. Tell them why you choose to be a supermodal so they can share the joy with others.

Once you have uploaded your story and photo, make sure you ask your family and friends to vote for you! Use your social media accounts to encourage people to vote – don’t forget to use the hashtag #supermodals and your messages will be shared. The entries with the most votes at the end of the competition will be submitted to a jury which will select two winners. You can find further information on the competition rules here and in the FAQs.

Let us know when you post your photo up and we will vote for you and encourage other CTPC members to as well!

Treasure to be found in High Woods County Park

trail logo

On July 31st, 10:30am outside High Woods Visitor Centre, Cycle Colchester will be revealing a closely guarded secret, the fact it is in the possession of a treasure map. This map along with a series of questions leads to the location of a hidden roman treasure.

Cycle Colchester has been working hard to produce a Roman themed treasure trail that can be walked or cycled and highlights the ease at which High Woods County Park can be accessed and explored by bicycle.

In partnership with CTC the trail is being launched as part of Love Parks Week at High Woods County Park on the 31st of July. The event is free to take part in and everyone is welcomed to come and join in, treasure map packs will be handed out from 10:30 am till 2pm. As there is a physical treasure at the end of the trail containing a variety of goodies, the quicker you find it the more treasure you are able to choose from. We ask that treasure seekers feel free to take a reward from the treasure, but why not also add to it, by putting something back into the treasure it will ensure that it will be there for treasure seekers to find for years to come.

In addition to the treasure trail, Richard Monk from CTC will be leading lead rides around the park, the first starting at 11:30, and will also be offering free cycle hire for the day in order for you to enjoy both or either activity. Cycle Colchester will also be on hand giving out general cycle advice to get you on your bike this summer.
